For 20 Years, The Old Post Office stood empty and viewed by many as a building beyond repair. In 2016, the building was a acquired by 601W at a discounted price of $130 million ($45/ft.). Bear Construction was selected as the General Contractor for a great deal of the renovations. After clearing out debris, the building required new windows, elevators, electrical and plumbing systems, HVAC, facade, roofing, and flooring. This iconic building is nearly three million square feet, boasts 19-foot ceilings and 14-foot windows, which creates a unique environment with tremendous natural light. An impressive roster of companies that have signed leases includes Uber, Walgreens, Ferrara Candy, and Federal Home Loan Bank. Located in the rapidly expanding West Loop, the Old Post Office has successfully been retrofitted into one of the greatest and most exciting buildings in Chicago. Bear Construction has agreed to welcome 15 YREP members for a walk through the building, which is nearing completion. Following the tour, we will have some time for networking and a light lunch.
